Scriptnib is a private writing tool for screenplays and novels, run by David Borges. Accounts are by invitation. This page says what it keeps, why, and who else ever sees it.
What Scriptnib stores
- Your account: your name, email address and a scrambled (hashed) form of your password — never the password itself.
- Your work: the screenplays, novels, notes, comments, pictures and settings you create or upload.
- Sharing: the links and invite codes you make, who used them, and what job each person is on (writer, director, producer and so on), so you can see and change who has what.
It uses a sign-in cookie to keep you signed in, and nothing else — no advertising, no tracking, no analytics.
Read aloud keeps no audio at all. Every play is made fresh and passed straight to you as it arrives, so there is no recording of your screenplay being read sitting on any disk, here or anywhere else.
Who can see your work
Only you, and the people you choose to share it with (through a link, a code, or as a collaborator). Scriptnib does not sell, rent or share your information or your writing with anyone.
Services Scriptnib uses
- Render hosts the site and stores its data.
- OpenAI turns text into speech for Read Aloud and Listen, only for the lines you choose to hear.
- MCP — if you connect an AI app yourself (Claude, ChatGPT or another), that app can work with your screenplays through the connection you made, and only with what you ask it to. Nothing is sent to any AI app unless you connect one, and disconnecting it stops that at once. What it can reach is listed below.
- Anthropic — Scriptnib's own in-app assistant and its SI passes (tagging a breakdown, checking formatting) send the scene they are working on to Anthropic's API to be read. They are off unless the administrator switches them on for your account, and nothing goes there while they are off.
- Email (password reset codes, and the message the Contact form sends) goes through Resend.
- Call sheets: when you ask Scriptnib to find a shooting location, that address is looked up once at OpenStreetMap, and the forecast for that spot comes from MET Norway. Only the address you typed on that contact is sent, and only when you press it. Nothing else about you goes with it.
- Google Drive — see below.
Google Drive backups
The site's administrator can connect a Google account so that Scriptnib saves its nightly backups into that account's Google Drive. Scriptnib asks Google only for access to the files Scriptnib itself creates (the "drive.file" permission): it creates a "Scriptnib backups" folder, puts backup files in it, and removes old ones. It cannot see, read or change anything else in that Drive. It also reads the account's email address, only to show which account is connected.
Scriptnib's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. That information is used only to store these backups — it is never used for advertising, never sold or transferred to anyone, and never used to train AI models. Disconnecting in Scriptnib (or under your Google account's third-party access) stops it at once.
What a connected AI app can reach
A connection you make through MCP acts as you, and reaches only the screenplays you are on and only the pages you hold. It is worth knowing that a film carries other people's details as well as your own:
- Your writing — screenplays, novels, scene text, outlines, beats, character notes and breakdown tags.
- Notes and comments, each with the name of whoever wrote it.
- Who is on the film — the name and the job of each person you have added, and whether they hold a given page.
- Contacts — the names, phone numbers, email addresses and postal addresses you enter for crew, cast, extras, locations and companies. Most of these people do not have Scriptnib accounts, so this is their information in your keeping; the same applies to a call sheet's unit base, parking and nearest hospital.
- The budget, which includes what people are paid — only if you have been given that page, which is ticked per person and is never part of a job.
Scriptnib does not choose what a connected app does with what it reads. That is covered by the terms and the privacy policy of the AI app you connected, and disconnecting it stops its access at once.
Keeping and deleting
Your work is kept until you delete it. Deleted items go to Trash first so they can be restored; emptying the Trash removes them. Backups are kept for a limited time and then replaced. To have your account and everything in it deleted, contact [email protected].
